Tempe Sister Cities Week and 40th Anniversary Celebration October 3-9, 2011

The 40th anniversary celebrations which began in January 2011, are moving into high gear! The week of October 3-9, 2011 has been officially proclaimed Tempe Sister Cities Week by Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman.  Tempe Sister Cities cordially invites you to participate!! See below a list of this weeks activities which include Bakery Day, Ring of Honor, Making a World of Difference, International Economic Forum, and our world famous Tempe Oktoberfest.

October 2011

Monday, October 3

  • Bakery Day at the Hackett House –Hackett House is throwing a birthday party to celebrate TSC’s 40th Anniversary! Free birthday cake, scones and beverages will be served all day 10AM to 4 PM) with drawings for free prizes throughout the day!  It’s Bakery Day!!

Tuesday, October 4

  • Welcome for Visiting Sister City Delegations and Board Members  at the Home of Dick and Jane Neuheisel. Many international guests are arriving and will be welcomed at the reception.  Home hosts are also welcome.

Wednesday, October 5

  • International Economic Forum
  • Ring of Honor Presentations at Sister Cities Garden-At 6 PM the Ring of Honor festivities are planned at the Dick and Jane Neuheisel Sister City Garden in Kiwanis Park. A picnic reception with entertainment by Zhenjiang, China visitors will be followed by the presentation of 12 longtime volunteers who ill be inducted into the Ring of Honor.  All Sister Cities Members and guests are welcome.

Thursday, October 6

  • International Economic Forum
  • Making a World of Difference Awards Reception This event honors humanitarians whose work has reached the international stage. The 5th Annual Making a World of Difference event begins at 6 PM with a “Meet and Greet” reception at the Tempe Center for the Arts. Dinner will follow. Tickets are $75 and reservations may be made by calling Hackett House at 480-350-8181 or click here to register online.

Friday, October 7 at 5:00pm

  • Tempe Oktoberfest Opening at the Tempe Beach Park- 5PM-Midnight
  • Parade of Flags
  • Royal Reception
  • Click on Tempe Oktoberfest for additional Information.

Saturday, October 8

  • Tempe Oktoberfest 10AM-Mdnight
  • das Frank Kush Oktoberfest Family Foot Race–Events: 5Mile/5K Run and 5K/1Mile Walk The Frank Kush Family Fun Foot Race begins at 8 AM. Click here to Register online.
  • Click on Tempe Oktoberfest for additional Information.

Sunday, October 9

  • Tempe Oktoberfest 10AM-6PM
  • Dachshund Races Great family activity for young and old alike. Click on Dachshund Races to see all of the Wiener Dog contestants and race times at this years Tempe Oktoberfest. Come out and cheer for your favorite Wiener Dog!!
  • Closing Ceremonies at 6 PM
