Agra City became our 11th sister city in 2016. We had our first successful exchange of student delegates in 2017, as well as a professional delegate exchange in June 2017.

  • Agra is the city of the Taj Mahal, in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, some 200 km from Delhi.Agra has three UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort in the city and Fatehpur Sikri nearby. There are also many other buildings and tombs from Agra’s days of glory as the capital of the Mughal Empire.
  • Agra’s golden age was as the capital of the Mughal Empire between 1526 and 1658, the city was founded much earlier. The earliest reference to Agra is in the ancient epic, the Mahabharata, while Ptolemy was the first person to call it by its modern name. The recorded history of Agra begins around the 11th century, and over the next 500 years, the city changed hands between various kings, both Hindu and Muslim.
  • People think Agra is just about the Taj Mahal. But, it is an enthusiastic place that would put you in awe. Agra was the capital of the great Akbar. Thus, there are a lot of architectural marvels to enjoy here that are related to Persian style. Apart from the Taj Mahal, Agra’s attractions include the Red Fort, built by Emperor Akbar on the banks of the River Yamuna, Sikandra, the mausoleum of Emperor Akbar, the Itmad-ud-Daulah, a mausoleum built for Empress Noor Jahan’s father and last but not the least and a short distance away, Fatehpur Sikri, with its very impressive architecture and interesting stories of it having been built and then abandoned.
  • After Delhi, Agra is the most visited tourist city in North India.

Where is Agra City?

Agra is located on the western banks of the river, Yamuna. It is about 206 kilometres (128 mi) away from the capital of the country, New Delhi.
