Sister City since 1976
Tempe and Regensburg’s partnership predates the fall of the Berlin Wall, when Regensburg was still part of West Germany.
This relationship is one of the great success stories of Tempe Sister Cities. Students, educators, professors, many sport and musical groups, professionals, city officials, economic developers, and university students have all enjoyed the Tempe-Regensburg exchange programs resulting in hundreds of friendships.
Our popular Oktoberfest program began as a salute of friendship to our Bavarian friends.
Tell me more about Regensburg…
- Regensburg mixes old school charm (city records date back to the first century!) with modern amenities: The city features Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals, castles and dense forests along with contemporary hotels, shops, breweries, and schools – including the University of Regensburg.
- Regensburg is close to the dense Bohemian forest and is only 42 miles from the Czechoslovakian border.
- Tempe residents are always welcome: Regensburg-Tempe Friendship Club shares sisterly love with visitors, welcoming you with a hearty “Gruss Gott!” in its native German tongue, which directly translates to “Greetings to God!”
Where is Regensburg?
Regensburg is a Bavarian city comparable in population to Tempe situated at the northernmost point of the Danube River.
